Austria

In Austria, chrismas is a traditional celebration that begins on December 6th with thecelebration St. Nicholas day. St. Nicholas visits children, often by Krampus a figure who encourages good behavior. The main celebration takes places on December 24th, chrismas eve, when families    gather for festive dinners, exchang gifts, and  decorating chrismas trees decorated with candles   and ornaments. Many also attend that evening.

Austrian Chrismas markets, or "christkind markt", are a major highlight, offering handcraft goods, mulled wine  and sweet treats. traditional food includes roast goose (with nachtsgans), carp (Karpten), and various cookies like vaillefipfer and lebkuchen. Families often cook diner together, preparing seasonal sweets such as stollen warm drinks like punsch and hot chocolate are also po popular.

Unique traditions include the Chriskind (chist child) bringing gifts on chistmas eve and the adventskranz (wreath with candle) Used to count down the four sunday before chrismas. Cities and towns are beautifully lit, and public spaces, adding to the festive spirit.
